High School Academic Counselor
Welcome letter for Shira Hussain: Hello Maryites and Maryite supporters! It is my pleasure to be here giving back to the school that gave so much to me. I am honored to be the Academic and Guidance Counselor for our high school students and am committed to doing my absolute best to serve them. I have been a college recruiter/counselor for almost ten years at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and also my alma mater, Loyola University New Orleans.
There are so many options nowadays when it comes to college choices and college funding. These options are a good thing but can also be a bit overwhelming to look into for both the student and parents. You have support! I have high expectations for our girls and am just one of the many support networks on campus to help them perform well academically, be sound spiritually, and be the best Maryite they can be.
Although I will be working with students in grades 9, 10, and 11, please know that it is never too early to start thinking and preparing for college. There are even some institutions that allow students to apply for college admission during their junior year of high school. I want to prepare our girls with an early start and not have everything pushed back until their senior year. My door is always open so do not be shy to come in and talk, get some guidance, and even eat some chocolate.
It will be a great school year! Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you. God bless!
