Campus Ministries

Dear Students, Parents, & Faculty of SMA!

My name is Miss Hymel and I am very excited to be on board here as the Campus Minister. We are looking forward to planning dynamic and exciting Masses for the school as well as engaging and life-changing retreats for our students.

Our Theme for this year is: BE TRANSFORMED!
These words are taken from the Bible in Romans 12:2- where it says, "Do not conform to this present age, but BE TRANSFORMED by the renewal of your mind so that you may discern what is the will of God- what is good and pleasing and perfect."

I truly feel that God has big plans for St. Mary's to have a total TRANSFORMATION. This year the physical campus will be transformed as they begin building our new school. In a similar way we are seeking a TRANSFORMATOIN of the heart- so that God can really be #1 in our lives and that would be reflected in ALL that we do and say.

We are starting a new club this year open to all seniors- THE RETREAT TEAM. Students interested in participating should sign up in my classroom B-7. The Retreat Team will be intricately involved in planning and giving the retreats for the younger students of the school. They will serve as role models of Christian faith inside and outside of school. I will make an announcement when our 1st meeting will be held.

We will also be starting a PRO-LIFE club. This club will be dedicated to raising awareness to the deep problem our society is facing with major LIFE issues. We will seek to spread God's message that every life is precious from conception to natural death and will participate in activities to promote the message of Respect for LIFE! This club will be open to all students. There will be a trip to Washington, DC in January for the annual "March for LIFE" event with the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Every year over 150 students from Catholic schools join the Archdiocese of New Orleans to attend this powerful event where people from all over the country (approximately 300,000 people) come to prayerfully stand witness to the need to respect ALL LIFE! All students who are interested in attending the "March for LIFE" should be active members in the PRO-LIFE club.

I would like to conclude by saying that I am open and available for students during 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th period if they ever need prayer or spiritual help in any way. Students can request to come to my classroom in B-7. I am also open for any new ideas or suggestions that the students desire to increase their prayer life and spirituality. Please email me at lhymel@smaneworleans.com or stop by my classroom to discuss any ideas you may want to share.

Know that I am praying for all the students, families, and faculty of SMA that we would experience God in a new and Mighty way as he transforms our school and our HEARTS!

Sincerely in Christ,
Miss Hymel
