Dining at a five-star restaurant might be a little intimidating for some but not for the seniors who took part in Social Savvy Day. A day-long etiquette and protocol event sponsored by St. Mary's Academy, Social Savvy Day 2009 featured workshops such as "Business Etiquette," "Interviewing," "Fine Dining," and "Effective Communication." Noted expert Janie Brady, director of the Louisiana Academy of Etiquette and Protocol conducted the first half day of the workshops including a dining tutorial during the luncheon.

Following lunch, seniors were given information regarding their upcoming Debutante Ball which will be held in April. Debutante General Chairperson Lisa Ross introduced Cynthia George, Chairperson of the Debutantes and Court, who explained the significance of making a debut as well as SMA protocol for the Deb Ball.

Also highlighting the event was a talk on "The Male Perspective" which gave the seniors eye-opening information on dating and male-female interaction. Speakers for the Male Perspective were David Durand and his son Drew Durand and Darryl Gray and his son Darryl.

The event ended with the presentation of specially designed pearl bracelets to each senior, officially signifying her acceptance as a SMA Debutante Candidate.
