PTA Holds 2nd Annual Workshop for Mothers and Daughters

The Parent Teacher Association of St. Mary’s Academy held its 2nd annual Mother and Daughter Health and Wellness Workshop on Saturday March6.  Held on the school’s campus, located at 6905 Chef Menteur Blvd., the event afforded elementary and middle school students and their mothers the unique opportunity to discuss issues such as fitness, nutrition, medical health, and beauty concepts.

Highlights of the event included a general session led by Wilma T. Hurley who discussed “Parenting through Grace.” The eye-opening discussion offered real-life situations and positive ways parents can offer guidance to their children with an emphasis on love and respect. Immediately following the general session were breakout sessions on topics that included “General Hygiene,” “Beauty Concepts,” and “Medical Health” led by Dione Breckenridge, Cheryl Ross-Brown and Dr. Jennifer Lapeyrolerie respectively.

The event ended with door prizes, special acknowledgments and a luncheon.

“Mother and daughter relationships are very unique and special,” said PTA president Dione Breckenridge who helped to coordinate the workshop. “Any event that is designed to help them relate positively with one another is both advantageous and needed.”
