Peer Ministers

Members of the student body and faculty have formed a support group to aid other students. These trained peer ministers are available to the students by appointment.

The Borromeo Club

The aim of the Borromeo Club is to foster spiritual guidance in the making of a career choice. This is done through prayer, discussions and charitable works, the growth of the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity which, if nourished in the home, will be the foundation for development of a religious vocation. Outstanding Christians are invited to speak to the members on various aspects of Christian life. 

Christian Life Community

The aim of the Christian Life Community is to promote Christian awareness through the example of the Christian Exemplar, Mary.

The annual activities are: The Living Rosary, distribution of Thanksgiving baskets, Grandparent Adoption Project, Hospital and Nursing Home Visitation, Bible Quiz Bowl and the May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Christian Student Mission Crusade [CSMC]

The aims of the Christian Student's Mission Crusade are to make students aware of the Third World, to assist in the spread of the Christian message by prayers and monetary contributions.

Business Club

The objectives of the Business Club are to develop knowledge of the business world, to help each member grow as a person and to contribute to the school and community.

The English Club

The purpose of the English Club is to enhance the student's desire to express herself by developing her creative writing skills and deepening her understanding of literature. Further, the Club seeks to encourage the student body to have an active interest in writing and literature. 

Filiae Romae Antiqua

The Latin Club enables the students to become acquainted with Greek and Roman life so as to enrich their own lives. 

The Science Club

The purpose of the Science Club is to develop and to promote interest in the scientific technology which influences our daily lives and which will affect our futire. Students are encouraged to acquaint  themselves with the different fields of science and to pursue science-oriented careers.

Mu Alpha Theta

Mathematics Club - The purpose of this organization shall be to further the understanding of mathematics and to encourage a more intense study of mathematics. St. Mary's Academy is a charter member of the national organization. The requirements are as follows:

  • The student must maintain an overall C+ average per semester
  • The student must be enrolled in an Honor's Mathematics Course
  • The student must maintain a "B" average in Mathematics
  • The student must have at least two credits of Mathematics

Future Homemakers of America

This club proposes to promote a growing appreciation of the joys and satisfaction of homemaking and to encourage democracy in both the home and community life. 

National Honor Society

The purpose of the Martin Luther King Chapter of St. Mary's Academy shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in all students. 

Membership in the National Honor Society is both and honor and a responsibility. Students elected to membership are expected to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Once a member is dismissed, she is never again eligible for membership.

Eligibility is open to students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. A student must maintain a 3.5 average in a five-point grading system. Only honor courses in English, Science, Mathematics, Foreign Language, and Social Studies will be awarded quality points on a five-point scale. Any student with a grade below "C" in any subject will be excluded. A student must be a member of at least two clubs, on of which must be an academic or service club. 

S.M.A. Honor Society

The purpose of this club is to give recognition for outstanding achievement to students of all levels - top achievers in their class. 

A student must maintain a "B" average at her level. Leadership, service, and character are the same as applies to the National Honor Society.

Library Club

The aim of the Library Club is to develop student interest in the library as a career, to make students conscious of the many steps involved in preparing books for circulation, and to alert students  to the wonderful store of knowledge to be found in the library. 

Pre-Alumnae

The purpose of the Pre-Alumnae is to provide training and encourage active participation in the Alumnae Association among the school's graduates. This club holds an annual activity in October - the revenue from which is used to purchase new equipment for the school.

The Athletic Clubs

The objectives of the Athletic Clubs are:

  • To develop a wholesome and diversified program of games and social activities
  • To foster a spirit of good sportsmanship
  • To provide activity opportunity for all girls rather than for a select group
  • To provide for the development of fellowship and friendliness in games. 

The Athletic Club promotes and supports various extra-curricular activities which are an outgrowth of the school program of physical education.

Teams - The school is a member of the LHSAA. The Athletic Club competes in cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball and track. The club also sponsors intramural and teacher-student sports events. 

Cheerleaders - This club boosts team spirit as well as school spirit concerning a variety of school functions. 

Drill Team and Majorettes - The members of these clubs represent the school during the marching seasons. They give students the opportunity to learn to march in regular drills and in dance formation.

Gymnastics Team - This club strives to develop coordination, balance, agility, grace and skill in its members. 

Modern Dance Group - This club strives to develop good form and an insight into the world of dance other than social.
