Christy Scott Smith, '91

During our recent Career Day, one particular session was full to capacity, yet, when I entered the room, I could hear a pin drop. Running her session with good old-fashioned Maryite control, discipline and structure was Christy Scott Smith, ‘91.

Daughter of our own Elizabeth Porter Scott, ’71, Christy possesses many of the qualities of her mom—calm, poised, and extremely helpful. And, this Scott also demonstrates the same no-nonsense, all-business approach to life as well as to her craft that her mom does.

From a very early age, Christy displayed a love of color, fashion, makeup and hair styling. She says that by the 5th grade she knew she would one day work in a field that would allow her the freedom to express her ever–growing sense of creativity.

Because Christy has always had a genuine love and concern for children, it is no wonder that she, in addition to running her own salon, also teaches cosmetology to high school students.

Christy credits St. Mary’s Academy with reinforcing the same sense of responsibility and discipline instilled in her by her parents—lessons she incorporates in her cosmetology classes.

You see, in addition to learning the basics of color and style, Christy’s students are given daily lessons in life. “I remind them that my classroom rules will help prepare them for life outside of high school, where there will be many rules they must follow if they are to succeed.”

When Christy's students leave her class, they take with them much more than cutting and styling skills. “I hope to impress upon them the importance of carrying themselves a certain way. I also stress to my kids the importance of accepting responsibility for their actions, and standing up for what they know is right—at all costs.”

Christy is owner and operator of Quiet Styles, a full- service hair salon located at 4939 Chef Menteur Boulevard, Suite 116, [288-2924] as well as a teacher of Cosmetology at Robouin Career Academy. Give her a call today!
