Beliefs & Mission

Mother DelilleSaint Mary’s Academy began the task of defining its beliefs and mission by engaging its stakeholders – including teachers, administrators, students, parents and community members – in a wide-ranging process of review and consensus-building.  Those involved suggested ideas for the mission statement, which were reviewed, rewritten, consolidated and condensed by the committee.

The Mission Statement was presented to and approved by the administration, faculty and staff.

The Beliefs and Mission committee reviewed the school’s profile data, specifically the history and educational progress of Saint Mary’s Academy.  The National Study of School Evaluation’s School Beliefs Inventory was the tool used to survey the stake holders.  Examination of this information was essential in the development of the beliefs survey.

From the survey results, a list of the sixteen most popular statements was compiled. This list was sent back to the Beliefs and Mission committee, which reduced the number to seven.  The final seven Beliefs statements were accepted by the faculty.

Parents and guardians may rest assured that the Sisters consider themselves bound to respond to the confidence placed in them by giving their pupils a Christian and Virtuous education, strictly attending to their intellectual improvement, cultivating that refinement of manners which will fit them for Society and giving them that physical care which they would receive under the parental roof. ~ 1880
